WaterRower Natural
The WaterRower Natural is hand crafted in solid Ash and stained in Honey Oak for consistency of color. Each machine has been hand finished with Danish Oil giving a deep luster an warmth to the wood.
Wood has been chosen due to its marvellous engineering properties, primary amongst these is its ability to absorb sound and vibration enhancing the WaterRower's quietness and smoothness of use.
Ash, like all woods used in WaterRower construction, is a premium hardwood with incredible longevity and dimensional stability. For reasons of ecology, all our woods are harvested from replenishable forests.
Water Rower... naturally self paced
Rowing, like other common aerobic exercises (such as swimming, running, cycling, skating, etc.) is not a resistance based exercise (see explanation).
When rowing (or exercising aerobically) you simply exercise at your desired intensity and you and your equipment moves at a speed proportional to the work you are producing.
Increase your intensity and you move faster, the limit to how fast you can go is you, your physiology, the amount of work you can produce.
And this will be different for all of us.
This is the naturally self paced aspect of rowing and aerobic exercise.
WaterRower ... all gain, no pain
How It Works
The WaterRower's patented WaterFlywheel has been designed to emulate the exact dynamics as a boat moving through water; the objective of the exercise of rowing
The outcome is an exercise with uncanny similarity to the "real thing", including:
- Naturally Self Paced- anyone can row regardless of age, sex, size of level of fitness
- Naturally, Self Regulating Resistance- the WaterRower's patented WaterFlywheel alters resistance according to the users intensity
- Naturally Even Stroke- works for the muscle groups evenly, and in proportion to their strength
- Natural Fluid Connection- no jerkiness or jarring like conventional mechanical rowers
- Naturally Good for the Back- strengthens the posture and muscles of the core
Self Regulated Resistance- The Theory
The WaterRower's unique patented Water Flywheel mechanism has been designed to replicate the exact physical dynamics of rowing.
The resistance in rowing (Rw) is defined as the force working against the flow of the moving boat, the Fluid drag. Similarly, (Pw) may be defined by the amount of power required to move the boat through the water
Thus we have;
Rw = Resistance required to move boat through the water
Pw = Power required to move boat through the water
Water resistance is dependent on:
v = Velocity at which the boat moves thru water (or water moves past the boat)
cw = coefficient of the water
A = The area of contact of the water with the boat
r = the density of the water
With these factors, the following principle holds:
Fw= ½ . A . cw . r . v2, and
Pw= ½ . A . cw . r . v3
Put simply, to double the speed of the boat you require 8 times the intensity of exercise.
Patented WaterFlywheel
The WaterRower's unique patented Water Flywheel mechanism has been designed to replicate the physical dynamics of rowing, in the knowledge that this will achieve all of its physiological benefits, as well as much of the aesthetic pleasure.
Many rowing machines imitate the action of rowing, but they do so mechanically, and often lack the natural dynamics experienced when a boat and crew glide down a river.
When a crew row down a river they work to overcome the effect of drag which acts against the hull of the boat. The faster the boat is propelled the greater the drag and the harder the crew must work.
The Water Flywheel reproduces these same natural dynamics. Like other naturally performed aerobic pursuits such as swimming, running and cycling, to increase your intensity you don't increase the resistance you simply swim, run, cycle or row harder. The faster you go the higher your intensity.
